In a method for processing used printer toner cassettes, consisting of plastics, ferrous metal and other metal components, the cassette is pre-crushed while being sprinkled with a washing solution, toner residues contained in the cassette are converted into a slurry and the residual components of the crushed cassette are transferred to a washing drum, to be separated into floating and non-floating components. An independent claim is included for apparatus for carrying out the process, comprising a washing drum (28) with at least one fluid line and at least one sieve device (22); a crusher (18) for the cassettes, having a vibrating channel (12) as cassette discharge device; and another vibrating channel for delivery from the washing drum to a separating magnet (30).
