The switchable additional electrical or magnetic field is controlled in such a manner that the conductive particle is deflected based on its mass and charged in a different manner. A high frequency alternating current voltage lies at the electrodes. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for selective detection of electrically conductive and/or electrically charged particle e.g. sooty particle, in a gas flow.
