Exhaust gas recirculation controlling device has a valve (6). The transfer rate of the EGR gas is reduced if the actuator (7) moves the valve in such a way that the opening is reduced to an opening value of zero. The transfer rate of the EGR gas is minimized by the opening with the opening value of zero. The transfer rate of the EGR gas by the opening area of a minimum flow rate with overturn is essentially equal to the transfer rate with the opening. The control unit (8) minimizes the transfer rate of the EGR gas when determined. The control unit calculates the command value in such a manner that the actuator moves the valve such that the opening is stopped within the area of a minimum flow rate with overturn.
