An inductive coil (101) functions as an antenna during a communication mode, and as an inductive element for conditioning the power available from an internal power source in a power conversion mode. A power converter (104) transforms the energy extracted from the power source to a power to be supplied to the communication system. A controllable switch (102,103) changes the operating mode between the communication mode and the power conversion mode by selectively connecting the inductive coil to either a receiver (106) or power converter.
