The device has rocker switches (1, 2, 4, 5), a display device, and a rotary encoder that are arranged as an integral unit. The rotary encoder has a ring unit (3), where a display (6) of the display device is arranged inside the ring unit. A controller is arranged for controlling the display device based on signals of the switch and output signals are produced for an audio mechanism. The switch is provided with two switching states. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling an audio mechanism of a vehicle.
