The system has a host (100a) configured for transferring a shutdown identifying signal over a data channel (55) and for driving a scanning channel (15). A client (200a) is connected with the host by the channels. The client is configured to drive the data channel for reactivating the host and to enter into a shutdown condition based on the identifying signal, where the client is reactivated by detecting whether the scanning channel is operated by the host. An independent claim is also included for a method of operating a data communication system.
