The system has a data source such as video camera providing a multimedia data. Two client applications use the multimedia data. A virtual data source is communicatively coupled to the data source and the client applications, where the virtual source obtains the multimedia data from the data source and provides the multimedia data to the client applications. The client application requests a format of data different from the format of data provided by the data source, where the virtual source determines the format of the data to be received from the data source. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for providing multimedia data to client applications (2) a computer useable medium comprising a set of instructions to perform a method for providing multimedia data.
