The primary inductive coil (16) lies beneath the glass ceramic hob plate (14) on which a metallic cooking vessel (12) is placed and between the primary coil and the underside of the plate are at least two secondary coils (24,26) generating a magnetic field (18) whose directions are opposed due to winding in opposite directions in a series connection. An eccentric positioning of the pot causes the sensing system (10) to determine the one or two dimensional coordinates of the position.
