Camshaft and oil-driven camshaft phaser for automotive engine

An adjustable camshaft system for an automotive engine includes a camshaft having machined and fabricated axially directed control passages combined with an oil actuated camshaft phaser. The fabricated oil control passages are formed in a part of the camshaft having an outer diameter substantially equal to the outer diameter of other parts of the camshaft inserted in bearings carried in the cylinder head of the engine.
