The method involves periodically reading signals, which are delivered from sensors (6) by using a local detecting unit (5) coupled to an automatic machine (2). Basic indicators are periodically calculated by using a processing device (7). The basic indicators are periodically transferred from the local detection unit to a remote maintenance station (11). The basic indicators are processed and analyzed by using the remote service station with respect to the techniques of predictive services, to specify, when service interference at the automatic machine is necessary. An independent claim is also included for a system for predictive servicing of a production system for production of smoke article.
