The outer bearing race (12) has an axial shaft (26) defining a rotational axis of a vehicle wheel and provided with a radial outer wall and a radial inner wall. The inner wall is provided with a running path (28) and a ring groove (42) that is axially distanced from the running path. The ring groove forms another running path (30) or a receptacle seat for an outer ring (44). The outer wall has a diameter that is measured in a radial sectional level and changes independent of an axial position of the level according to a function. An independent claim is also included for a method of forging an outer bearing race.
