The system has at least one light source (7) for subjecting an observed area (2) to stimulation light and an optical detector for fluorescence generated by fluorescent material in the tissue as a result of the stimulation light. The optical detector is formed by at least one camera system (3) for generating a normal image and a fluorescent image of the observed area and the light source(s) is a pulsed light source.
