The system has a video camera (2) for acquiring data which corresponds to the video image of a monitored rear end region in a vehicle. A liquid crystal display (LCD) device (6) is coupled to the data acquisition device for displaying the image of the monitored region based on the acquired data, while the vehicle is driven forward. A controller (7) controls the data acquisition device such that the desired region is detected.
