The roller has an endless relief with naps, each with a weld point surface having longitudinal form. The point surfaces are provided at free ends of the naps to reinforce non-woven fabric by pressure and/or heat. The point surfaces are arranged such that a line of one point surface, which run in the mantle surface within a pattern repeat in the circumferential direction of the embossing roller (1), is cut and/or contacted and another line of the other point surface that run in the mantel surface within the repeat in the direction of a rotation axis (4) of the roller is cut and/or contacted.
