The focus of this thesis is Tectonics. According to Kenneth Frampton, Tectonics is the science or art of construction, both in relation to use and artistic design. The objective for this thesis is to explore the correlated tectonics of architecture and fabric manipulation. Fabric Manipulation is a method used to reshape fabric. The techniques used create layers and three dimensional forms that give the fabric textures and depth. The forms are derived from two dimensional diagrams and stitched into a pattern to create dynamic forms.;The relationship between fabric manipulation techniques and the approaches to architectural design, and how they can be intertwined to create architectural form, spaces and surfaces, is explored. There are many techniques that are common in most design oriented fields and the designers encounter similar practices when developing their ideas. The research developed from the study of these forms will help to articulate aesthetics, functionality and the movement through the space of the design. Fabric types used will also influence materials used in the architecture.;The process for this thesis will be to investigate the system of taking two dimensional diagrams used in fabric modification, overlaying various processes and then creating a new three dimensional form to investigate architecturally.
