The device has a sensor (1) that is arranged in a filler neck or mounted at parts lying proximity to the filler neck. The sensor is connected with a control technique (2) and provided for detecting volatile gases of the fuel. The control technique directly or indirectly controls mechanical, hydraulic or pneumatic locking devices for closing a tank. The sensor registers the values at the filler neck and compares the values with data that is stored in the control technique.
