The respirator has a feeding arrangement (2) to supply air to a patient, a discharge equipment (3) to remove expiration air from the patient and a sensor to determine the condensation of the patient supplied air and or the expiration air. The sensor has a condensation surface (10) having an adjuster (13) to adjust the temperature of the condensation surface. An optical verification mechanism (16) is provided to determine the condition of the condensation surface.
