An air filter for an ultra-clean room must fulfill two functions: filtration and recirculation with cooling. These two functions are now combined in a single module divided into two chambers that communicate through a window in the dividing wall. External air is drawn in by the fan (4) at (32) into the recirculation chamber (9) where it mixes with the recirculated air before passing into the filtration chamber (5). Air from the fan is diverted vertically upwards and then downwards into a collection space (25), for equal distribution over the filter (7). The air then passes into the room through slanted slats, away from the oppositely slanted slats of the recirculation chamber in order to avoid short-circuiting of air between the chambers. The recirculation air is drawn in over a cooling heat exchanger (3) under the same fan suction as that drawing in new external lair. The module has inbuilt silencing in the form of isolating layers (17,19,20).
