To separate components from a fiber suspension, to clean it of impurities, a fiber suspension flow (2) is passed to a hydrocyclone, pressure sieve or flotation separation unit (1). The suspension overflow (4) from the separation unit is divided into a coarse fraction (6) and a recirculation fraction (5), which is returned upstream back to the separation unit. The recirculation fraction has a variable volume, set by a control (9) into special structures, to give the required outflow (3) of cleaned suspension.
