Describes a process for the treatment of a load to 4 carbon atoms, which contains compounds, dienic and a minor part of the acetylenic compounds. It is withdrawn laterally (7) a portion of the fluid circulating in a zone (2) of distillation, which is enriched with acetylenic compounds, preferably in the stripping zone, there is a selective hydrogenation stage in a zone (8) of hydrogenation external to the distillation zone. The effluent (12) of hydrogenation produced is recycled into the rectification zone. It is recovered at the head (3) a cross section, c4, including butadiene and depleted in acetylenic compounds and at the bottom (13) a c5 cut enriched in oligomers.
