The invention concerns a device for generating hydrogen by reaction on water vapour of one or several fuels. The device comprises: a reactor for vaporizing water and preheating (1) fuels and water vapour; a reactor for converting (2) the fuels into a mixture rich in hydrogen and carbon monoxide by catalyst-free high-temperature endothermal reaction of the fuels with the water vapour. The conversion reactor (2) comprises a first zone (3) wherein at least a fraction of the fuels and of water vapour is injected at high speed, thereby initiating the conversion reaction. The conversion reactor (2) further comprises a second zone (5) wherein said fuels and water vapour are retained for a sufficiently long time for the reactions to reach thermodynamic equilibrium. The device further comprises a reactor for cooling (6) the conversion products.
