Process (P1) for producing fritted tablets comprises compressing a hydroxyapatite powder under a pressure of at least 100 MPa. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a process (P2) for producing fritted tablets, comprising compressing an apatite powder under a pressure of at least 100 MPa to produce a green tablet, fritting the green tablet in an atmosphere containing at least 50 vol.% oxygen, and refritting the tablet in a low-activity atmosphere; (2) fritted tablet produced by P2; (3) cell culture support comprising a flat plate made of a calcium phosphate compound having a relatively high density.
