The system has a mechanical shovel (2) with a chassis (4), and a support unit (16) placed in a pit (18). The unit (16) has an upper surface (20) provided with a pivoting male unit (22). The chassis has a lower surface (25) provided with a pivoting female unit (24) that is adapted to cooperate with the male unit (22) such that the chassis is pivoted with respect to the support unit. An independent claim is also included for a method for arranging a mechanical shovel.
