The energy supply is connected to the outside of the small section of pipe using a casing or insert connected by cables or pipes and sealed to the external wall of the small section of pipe. At least one of the cables or pipes supported by the casing is brought in by a sealed and isolated hole in the cross-piece(s) adequate for the cable or pipe to pass through.
