The method involves dropping a bob on a vertically movable chisel that reflects the striking force of the bob on a tooth (1b) to be tested of a vertically fixed pinion. An upper flange of the tooth is struck by a tooth (18) integrated to a tool (15) moving vertically in an axle of the chisel. The tooth (18), similar to the tooth (1b), is housed in a space between the tooth (1b) and an adjacent upper tooth (1a) of the pinion. An independent claim is also included for a device for evaluating impact resistance of pinion teeth.
