The unit has a base (2) supporting and maintaining a support post (3) having a traffic sign, in a vertical position, where the post extends along a vertical axis (4). The base (2) comprises a recess (13) that traverses on both sides of the base and receives the support post. A locking unit comprises a square plate with a lower end supported against the post and against an inclined surface of a slot to radially block the post. The locking unit is mounted on the base for allowing detachable mounting of the traffic sign with respect to the body.
