The installation has a condensation control module (7) detecting a condensation state from an estimation of a dew temperature of an exhaust gas recirculation which traverses an exhaust gas recirculation cooler (5) and an estimation of a temperature of a wall of the cooler. The module controls a distribution valve (6) based on the detected state in a manner to send the recirculation in the cooler or in a by-pass (51). The by-pass permits the recirculation to bypass the cooler and to be sent into an intake manifold (40) of a combustion engine without cooling. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling an exhaust gas recirculation installation.
