The assembly (1) consists of two components (20. 30) of a motor vehicle engine such as a cylinder block and exhaust manifold with ducts (22) that are sealed together by a gasket (10). The gasket is of flat metal with ridges (13) round their holes (14) that are aligned with the duct openings, and at least one of the two sealed components has grooves (23) to receive the ridges. The depth of each groove is less than the thickness of the ridge, and the difference between the two is less than the elastic deformation capacity of the ridges.
