The engine has a compressor (5) and a turbine (4) forming a turbocharger cooperating with a pressure wave supercharger (6). The turbine and compressor are arranged with the supercharger such that a gas entering the turbine possesses a pressure greater than that of the gas entering the compressor. The turbine and compressor are arranged respectively in loops (B1, B2) in which gas leaving the engine passes via the supercharger for being injected again in the engine, and in which ambient air passes via the supercharger and enters in an exhaust line (10). An independent claim is also included for an engine controlling method.
