The seat has a backrest extension support unit comprising a vertical hollow body (17) inside which a tubular support foot (18) of an adjustable upper extension (13) of a backrest (12) slides vertically. The vertical sliding position of the foot is adjustable by a user e.g. driver, of a motor vehicle. The extension has an upper belt reinforcement (15) supported by the tubular foot. The hollow body and the tubular foot together form a hollow passage that extends the edge of the backrest. A control unit allows the user to adjust the height of the belt reinforcement.
