A device has a water circulation circuit (11) for directly connecting a fuel cell (2) to a cooling system (3) and a purification system (4). A pump (9) is mounted at an input of the fuel cell and circulates cooling water, where the water passes through the fuel cell, cooling system and purification system. A regulation unit is in the form of by-pass channels (14, 16) and regulates the operation of the fuel cell. The regulation unit makes the cooling system and purification system operate independently based on the temperature of the cooling water.
