The invention relates to the reading of game-taking documents in a terminal (1) for playing games able to read two types of documents: rectangular game grids on which the information is printed in lines parallel to the presentation edge in a introductory window, and elongate rectangular recess receivers (7A, 7B) of varying lengths on which information is printed in parallel lines at the short side; the game receipts (7) are presented in the window by their long side lying down; they have a characteristic which differs from that of the gaming grids and which is able to be detected in the terminal (1) and to identify the documents presented as games receipts and not game grids; the detected data read in parallel with the long side of the receipts is converted into real data corresponding to the information printed on the receipts in parallel lines at their short side.
