An electric field distorting pattern (315) is provided on three of the pixels on the latter substrate. Another electric field distorting pattern (325) is provided on three of the pixels on the former substrate. Third electric field distorting pattern (335) is provided on fourth sub-pixel e.g. viewing angle restricting sub-pixel, on the latter substrate.
