The assembly has a rear upper cross-piece (11) mounted between two rear struts (10A, 10B) at the level of an upper region of the struts for being placed in a service position and an inactive retracted position. The cross-piece has two bars in which one bar is articulated on the respective strut at one end of the bar for being displaced between the positions, where the bars co-operate coaxially in the service position. A blocking unit maintains the bars in the service position. The cross piece has a signal lighting source e.g. stoplight (15), connected to an electric source of the vehicle.
