The device has a handle mounted on an inner side of a door and including a hollow shaped shell or frame (3) in which an opening lever is mounted. The lever is movable between a rest position and an opening position of the door. The handle has an actuator (8) e.g. electric jack, which is controlled to increase intensity of return force on detection of an obstacle e.g. cyclist, situated on trajectory of the door. The lever has a spoon (6) and an inner end (7), where the spoon is actuated by an occupant of a vehicle. An independent claim is also included for a method for warning an occupant of the motor vehicle about the presence of an obstacle on an opening trajectory of a door.
