The device has a hood (1) on an outer edge forming a relief. The hood has an outer skin (2) and an inner lining (3). A thermal protection unit is fixed on a gripping zone (5) of the hood and on lower side of the lining. The zone is situated laterally with respect to longitudinal median plane of a vehicle. The unit has a plate stuck against a hidden flange of the hood when the hood is in closed position.
