The method involves obtaining a file of spectral measurements of a characterization target that is utilized for calculating international color consortium (I.C.C.) profile of a digital printer. The spectral measurements are transmitted by a user, and type of a measurement instrument is transmitted to produce a geometry of a control range via a local or remote server. An optimized control range is calculated based on the transmitted measurements and the profile, and is transmitted to the user via the server.
