Device has a main enclosure (8) enclosing a stack (1) of cells (2) of a fuel cell. Fixation units (9) e.g. rail, permit to fix the stack on a wall of the enclosure. The enclosure is fixed on a floor pan of a motor vehicle and separated from the stack by an inner air layer (21). The enclosure has a thermal insulation material and an opening (11a) with an actuatable shutter (11) having a closed position in which the air layer is separated from exterior air (20). The shutter has open positions in which increasing contact surfaces (19) are present between the layer and the exterior air. An independent claim is also included for a method for isolating a fuel cell device embedded on a motor vehicle.
