The method involves carrying out an inverse mapping transformation on each image of a set of successive images of a scene (6) stored on a charged couple device (CCD) recording camera (1) by an calculation unit. A transformed image zone is determined for each detected static object e.g. vehicle, from static object data and parameters of the camera. The zone is masked, and a motion card formed of pixels is calculated based on the masked zone. Each pixel is associated to the presence of movement of the object with respect to a portion of a reference surface of the scene. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for detecting movement of an object of a scene (2) a vehicle adapted to be displaced on the ground.
