The method involves enlightening an optically reflecting surface (10) e.g. mirror, to be controlled, by a light beam (11) that is emitted by a point light source (12) e.g. laser diode. A digital image (15) of the surface is captured by an optical pick up camera (16) and a parameter corresponding to light intensity of the image is analyzed, for analyzing a light beam (14) that is reflected by the surface, where the light intensity of the image is obtained by reflection. An independent claim is also included for an optically reflecting surface controlling device comprising a light source.
