The device (1) has a locking element (5) with a rod (7) holding a protrusion (8) projecting towards another locking element (6) when a convertible roof (2) is in a covering position. The latter element has a housing (10) with a blocking wall (11) at its end oriented towards the former element, where the wall has a slot allowing the passage of the rod when the roof is in the covering position. An actuator (9) is arranged, during the movement of the former element towards its locking position, to bring a surface of the protrusion against a surface of the wall to exert a locking force.
