The holder has a case (12) attached to a head (64) of the holder and supporting a control mechanism (14). The mechanism has an interchangeable piston for maintaining an acetabular cup prosthesis (11) against an axial movement of the prosthesis, where the piston has an interface for holding the prosthesis. The mechanism has a handle at an end (42`) of a lever (42) for rotating the control mechanism by using a manipulator. A locking mechanism (62) i.e. sleeve, locks the lever (42) in a position so as to lock the prosthesis against the head.
