A door handle assembly for a door comprises a four bar linkage formed from a handle member 3; a door bracket 1 capable of rotation about the axis of a spindle; and two parallel links 2. A first upper link has one end pivotally attached to the handle member 3 and the other secured to and extending perpendicularly from a spindle of the door [Figure 2]. A second lower link extends parallel to the first and has one end pivotally attached to the handle member 3 and the other pivotally secured to the door bracket 1 [Figure. 2]. In use, the four-bar linkage allows the spindle of the door to be rotated whilst the horizontal orientation of the handle remains unchanged thus making it easier to open the door.
