A system and dressing for wound healing comprises a layer B2/B of calcium alginate powder and/or sodium alginate powder. The ratio by weight of sodium to calcium alginate may be within the range is 95: 5 to 5:95. Preferably 95:5 sodium/calcium alginate to 72: 25 sodium to calcium alginate. Most preferably the ratio is 80:20 sodium to calcium alginate.
