PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide printed matter, a color chart, a printed matter characteristic information gathering device, etc., that lighten the load of color measuring operation for creating a profile matching an arbitrary image. PSOLUTION: The printed matter 1 includes the color chart 7 together with an image 3. Colors of color patches included in the color chart 7 are selected from, for example, combinations of gradation values of respective colors of inks according to frequencies of use for the image 3. A control unit of the printed matter characteristic information gathering device creates a histogram of image information and selects colors of color patches from the combinations of the gradation values of the respective colors of the inks according to the frequencies of use for the image 3. Then the color chart is created which comprises a collection of color patches showing the selected colors, and the combination of gradation values of the respective colors of corresponding inks is held as gradation value information. Further, an operator measures colors of the color patches and then creates a profile by making color measurement result information and gradation value information correspond to each other.
