PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a road-to-vehicle communication system capable of identifying the lane in which a vehicle is now traveling, without using a GPS.;SOLUTION: A light beacon 2 is arranged on a road having a plurality of vehicle lanes. An on-board device 11 boarded on a vehicle which is traveling on the road communicates with the light beacon 2 to discriminate the vehicle lane in traveling. An on-board device 11 comprises: a light projecting/receiving unit 12 having a plurality of light receiving elements to receive the infrared ray from the light projecting/receiving device 21 of the light beacon 2; and a discriminating part 26 discriminating vehicle lane. A plurality of light receiving elements are arranged so as to generate a difference among detection levels according to the incident angle of the infrared ray. A discriminating part 26 detects the incident angle of the infrared ray using the detecting level of each light receiving element and discriminates the vehicle lane based on the detection angle at the same time.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
