PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for applying destructive firmware update in a nondestructive way, and a computer usable medium.;SOLUTION: While a multiprocessor data processing system operates, a service processor updates firmware in the multiprocessor data processing system from first firmware setting to second firmware setting. When the second firmware setting includes at least one destructive operation with a first hardware device as a target, the service processor releases the allocation of the first hardware device, executes a destruction operation to the first hardware device, reallocates the first hardware device to the multiprocessor data processing system when the destruction operation is completed to thereby repeatedly apply the second firmware setting to hardware in the multiprocessor data processing system.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
