PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera calibration method using model matching by edge detection for achieving camera calibration even when the designation of a reference point is deviated from an actual location in a jumbled background.;SOLUTION: This camera calibration method includes a first process for photographing an object 11 with already known shape and size and orthogonal three sides by cameras 12 and 13 to acquire an input image; a second process for performing the smoothing processing of the input image to acquire an analysis object image; a third process for detecting an edge in an analysis object image; a fourth process for designating four reference point positions corresponding to the origin of a three-dimensional coordinate system constituted of three sides and points on each coordinate axis in the input image; a fifth process for performing model matching so that a coordinate axial model to be determined from each reference point position and the three sides in the analysis object image can be matched to calculate correction reference point positions; and a sixth process for preparing an object model by using each correction reference point position, and for operating model matching so that the object model can be matched with an object 11 in the analysis object image, and for determining the optimal perspective projection matrix.
