PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellently economical technique for efficiently synthesizing multicomponent nitride fluorescent substance having excellent stability and high brightness in a short time by using an inexpensive raw material.;SOLUTION: The new method for producing the multicomponent nitride fluorescent substance using a multicomponent nitride containing a plurality of metallic elements and metalloid elements as a host crystal includes mixing raw materials containing at least one kind of a simple substance of a constituent element of the host crystal, a compound of the constituent element of the host crystal, and an alloy of the constituent element, and at least one kind of an element becoming a luminescence center and a compound of the element so that the proportion of the constituent elements except nitrogen may form a constituent ratio of the target composition, and subjecting the resultant mixture to the combustion reaction self-propagating in the atmosphere containing the nitrogen to produce the multicomponent nitride fluorescent substance using the multicomponent nitride as the host crystal.
