PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for decomposing keratin, feathers, etc., by suppressing the cooling of fermentation heat generating on utilizing microorganisms in decomposing the keratin, feathers, etc.;SOLUTION: This method for decomposing the keratin or keratin-containing materials is provided by culturing the microorganisms belonging to the genus Meiothermus (suitably the Meiothermus sp. H328 strain) in a culturing medium containing a Ca salt and objects for decomposition, and also the decomposition-treating agent of the keratin or keratin-containing materials is provided by containing a cultured material obtained by culturing the microorganisms belonging to the genus Meiothermus in culturing solution containing the Ca salt as an active ingredient. By the disclosure, since the Meiothermus sp. H328 strain is a thermophilic bacterium, it is possible to culture and decompose the keratin under a condition of a higher temperature than that of conventional microorganisms having the keratin-decomposing activity.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
